We often see patients in our office who are suffering from chronic lower back pain. Most of these patients have seen other doctors or therapists with little or no result only to be told by us that they have a short leg, causing their problem.

Anatomical Leg Length Inequality or ALLI is a very common cause of lower back pain. Studies show that 20% to 40% of patients with lower back pain have ALLI.

The problem with ALLI is that the foundation for the spine is out of level. This results in the spine having to shift and bend to the low side to stay in contact with the sacrum a.k.a the tailbone. When the spine is bent in this fashion for years and then subjected to the forces of daily living like sports, work activities and household chores, damage to the spine eventually ensues. This break down damages the discs between the vertebra and causes arthritis in the spine and eventually causes pain.

In our office we evaluate all lower back pain patients for ALLI using a specific X-ray view that allows us to measure the leg length to within 1-2 mm.

Call our office for an appointment to see if a short leg is causing your back pain. (480) 892-0022
